How many attempts do I have to pass comprehensive exams?
You may take the comprehensives in the year before the date you intend to graduate. If you don't pass in the semester you intend to graduate, you may take it a second time that semester.
What is the pass/failure rate?
About 80% pass.
Are the questions equal in weight?
Yes.
Is there a reading list or should we follow the course texts? Can the texts be placed on reserve in the library?
There is a term list, which is widely available. You should study from that and from your course notes; the syllabi contain readings which you should re-read.
Will the questions on the exam be organized within sections (theory, history, media law) or will they be commingled?
They may be commingled.
Can one question involve terms from all three sections?
In general, they do not.
How should we approach studying for the comps?
Review all your class notes from Media, Ethics and Society, News Writing, Video Production Design, Video Production Elements, Communication Theory, Media History and Media Law. Look up any terms from the term list with which you are not familiar.
Is it possible to use a computer?
No.
What should I bring to the exam?
You should bring reliable and redundant writing implements and two Blue Books. Blue Books are available at the student stores.
