DiPalma to present "Brown Bag" talk
January 6, 2012
Sonya DiPalma, an associate professor in the Mass Communication department, will present a 'Brown Bag" talk over lunch in the library on Feb. 23 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. entitled "Feeding the Beast: How your organization can avoid getting bitten, or even eaten, in a social media storm."
The talk, which will deal with the need for continuous content for modern online media, is a part of Dr. DiPalma's research for her Plank Fellowship. The Fund for Teachers annually names Plank Fellowship Award winners, who, as the Foundation says, "demonstrate inspired implementation of their fellowship in unique and powerful ways that extend their summer odysseys throughout their teaching practice over multiple years."
Takeaways from the presentation include:
• Learn how one nonprofit “feeds the beast” during a crisis, which includes social media monitoring, responding on Twitter and incorporating Facebook.
• Become familiar with social media terminology such as throttle, firehose, and the wall.
• Learn how to assess your ROI in utilizing social media.
• Learn trendy new position titles accompanying social media such as social media engagement specialist and digital engagement specialist.
