Michael Gouge teaches basic journalism, layout & design, media ethics, newspaper workshop, enterprise reporting and occasionally teaches media-related courses in the Integrative Liberal Studies program. He is also the faculty adviser for UNC Asheville's student newspaper, The Blue Banner. Mr. Gouge has nearly 20 years of professional media experience as a writer, editor and designer for numerous print media outlets.

An avid motorcyclist, Mr. Gouge is the editor-in-chief of Blue Ridge Motorcycling Magazine, a quarterly travel & leisure publication for which he also contributes numerous travel articles. He previously worked at several daily newspapers in various positions including news editor for the Hendersonville (N.C.) Times-News, interim news editor of the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News. and a copy editor for the Asheville Citizen-Times. His primary areas of academic interest focus on the news media, narrative journalism and print media design.
