Senior Demonstration of Competency

The senior demonstration of competency is the formal name by which we know the process in which students show that they are ready to graduate. It consists not only in the completion of the curriculum, but of:

  1. The successful completion of senior comps
  2. The presentation of a completed co-curricular transcript (competency sheet)
  3. The presentation of a senior portfolio

Senior comps are one of the mechanisms by which the department determines which seniors are eligible to graduate. The comps are generally taken by seniors in their last semester at UNC Asheville. More information is available concerning the examinations in the menus to the right. The comps are administered by Dr. Donald Diefenbach, who may be reached at ddiefenb@unca.edu. More information about the senior comps is available via the menus to the right.

Co-Curricular Checksheet

The co-curricular checksheet is a document listing the other things which students ought to have done in order to graduate from UNC Asheville’s mass communication department. These are assessed by the professor administering the student’s senior colloquium class.

Senior Portfolio

The senior portfolio is a portfolio of student work, delivered on CD, in which the student showcases their work to the world for employment purposes and to the department for assessment purposes. These are assessed by the professor administering the student’s senior colloquium class. More information about the senior portfolio is available via the menus to the right.
